This weekend, a very good friend of mine and I made a promise to each other that one year from now, around this time, we will go somewhere and celebrate our success. We both started following our dreams this year and launched our own businesses. At the same time, this moment made me stop and think. It made me look back at where I was last June and how far I've come since then.
Last June, Mariposart didn’t even exist yet. It was a dream, an idea in my head that I was thinking about every single day. I had many changes going on in my life. I was moving out from a house where I had lived for nine months, a place that I loved so much. And I felt like it wasn’t right. It wasn’t how I had imagined things, and I didn’t want to leave that place behind.
At the time, I didn’t know why I had to leave it. But now, as I look back, I see so clearly that it had to happen for my own growth, so I could face certain things and start something new.
Mariposart.
Everything was still uncertain. I had the vision in my head, but I didn’t know how to start. I thought that maybe I wasn’t ready yet. And of course, in many ways, I wasn’t.
But I have learned so much since then, and now I can see the process more clearly. Step by step, I put together that tiny vision that once only existed in my head. I created a logo, a website, and social media accounts. There are still many things I don't know. Mariposart is still at the beginning of its journey. But today, I no longer question whether I should start.
And here I am, writing this blog post — something I wasn’t really planning to do a year ago. I think sometimes we focus so much on where we should go next instead of looking back and appreciating how far we have already come. Because in one year, so many things can happen that we never expected, and it is important to acknowledge those things too.
I hope that as you read this blog post, you are already thinking about your own achievements since last June.
If you can, take a few minutes today and write down five things you have achieved since last year, and be very proud of them.
With love,
Monika
